Happy Day

Yeah, Chelsea finally learned how to roll from tummy to back. She was on the floor while Carol was standing next to her. She rolled over and looked up at Carol as if to say - Look what I just did. She did it several more times, so we got it on film, but it is slooow downloading videos so I will try to post it on a later blog. She even did a couple of consecutive rolls and nearly came in range of Colman's kicking feet.
Chelsea is also getting very good with her hands. She is able to play with toys and move her hands slowly and deliberately, instead of swinging at stuff or grabbing, that is more Colman's speed right now. She likes to feel Doug's beard. She is so sweet and gentle, then she slyly and quickly grabs his eyeglasses. She will keep you on your toes.
Colman likes to blow raspberries with his mouth, which is supposed to help develop their oral muscles for speaking. He has started to sleep on his tummy if he is really tired. But we are looking forward to when he can rollover on his back so we feel safer about him sleeping on his tummy.
After a nap, I placed them in the crib together and they started smiling at one another. Too cute! Then Chelsea started pulling Colman's hair and poking him in the eye so they had to be separated. I hope that is not an indication of future interactions...

BCnC

In honor of Sara Palin and the 1 yearish anniversary of our trip to Alaska, we thought we would post some pictures. It is truly a national treasure. We were amazed by the beauty and magnificence of the state. It was a great adventure, but the fun continued when we became pregnant shortly after with CnC.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times

Colman is a happy soul that likes to smile, laugh and kick, oh yeah, and eat. But he has a dark side. When he is very tired, has to stop eating in order to be burped or has to wait on Chelsea to be burped (fortunately she is a pretty quick burper), the famous pouty face comes out. As a reminder, Colman came into the world with the pouty face, as seen in his picture with Grandma. When he is all grown up and at momentous occasions like graduating from college, I will always see that little pouty face in my mind.
So enjoy the adorable sides of Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde.

Rollin' on

Colman can also roll. He started rolling onto his belly pretty frequently after Chelsea started. But neither have learned to roll from tummy to back. For Chelsea, she decided to just sleep on her stomach. Colman can't sleep on his stomach so he will fuss when he has rolled onto his tummy, which is usually at about 5:30am. We suspect he has always woken up early and just talked to himself until it was time to eat. But now, he rolls over and starts to cry because he is tired from holding up his head. He likes to sleep on his side, so when he moves his legs around, he flops over on his stomach.

So we have started rollover boot camp. We try to help them experience rolling from tummy to back. We try to make it a game where rolling onto their back is rewarded with tickling and praise. We'll let you know if boot camp is a success....

Also notice the great fauxhawk... and it was a good hair day.

On a roll

Take a look at the video clip below! Chelsea has figured out how to roll over...at least one way. She can get from back to tummy, but hasn't yet figured out how to go from tummy to back. Colman is also rolling over. His are just harder to capture on video because he simply doesn't feel a particular need to be on his tummy. So, he'll roll over when he's good and ready, and often, that'll be when your back is turned.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the developmental milestones are flying by now. In their earlier days it felt like they added new "tricks" rather slowly. These days, they seem to be doing something new every time we turn around.

Four month Check up

Colman and Chelsea had their 4 month checkup and were given a good bill of health as well as 4 vaccination shots. ouch. Having missed a nap and getting the shots, they were not happy. But a ride in their carseats put them right to sleep.
Latest stats
Colman - Length: 27 inches / Weight: 15 lbs, 2 ozs
Chelsea - Length: 26 inches / Weight: 13 lbs, 14 ozs
To commemorate turning 4 mos old, they have learned to roll over onto their bellies. The only problem is they haven't figured out how to roll onto their backs. Chelsea loves to roll over onto her tummy but gets frustrated when she is stuck there, especially at naptime or 3am! Colman has done it a few times, but he does not find it as interesting. Probably because it makes all the contents of his stomach come out. As if there could be anything left after a couple of burps and tidal waves of spit up. We go through a lot of bibs and burp cloths. We are looking forward to the 6 mos mark when it may stop. That is one trick we are looking forward to with the next milestone.

Meeting new people

We went to Atlanta again over Labor Day Weekend. CnC got to meet Jennifer and Leigh Anne. Chelsea was tired and went for a stroll with dad. Colman was fed by Jen and played Peekaboo with both aunties. He charmed them with his smiles. Colman loves the ladies.

Hanging with friends

We took the kids on a walk around the hood with Jessica who was born 2 weeks before CnC. Jessica lives up the street and her daddy works in the same department as Doug.
